From the South Wales Voice newspaper, 26th August 1944, came the news of Eddie's death:-
KILLED IN ACTION
The sad news has been received by Mr and Mrs E Hughes, Pantteg, that their eldest son Eddie has been killed in action in Normandy. Deep sympathy is extended to the family in their sad bereavement.
