The Labour Voice newspaper for Saturday 17th May 1941 records the dedication of the memorial for the fallen of the First World War:-

CWMLLYNFELL LEGION MEMORIAL TABLET UNVEILED
Special difficulties over a period of years have at last been overcome at Cwmllynfell and the local branch of the British Legion had, on Sunday, the satisfaction of seeing their efforts to erecting a lasting memorial to their fallen brothers reach the final stage.

The unveiling was preformed by Mr. R. W. Burgess, Ammanford, general manager of Amalgamated Anthracite Collieries Ltd., before a large and representative gathering. The place of honour at the proceedings was given to the relatives of those whose names are engraved on the fine bronze memorial tablet preceded by the following inscription:

"Erected by the Cwmllynfell Branch of the British Legion on behalf of Fellow Citizens to Commemorate those who made the Supreme Sacrifice in the Great War for Civilisation, 1914-1918. And whose names are inscribed hereon. 'Their names Liveth for ever.'"

(13 names)

Many wreaths were placed at the shrine, which is situated in the vestibule of the Cwmllynfell Welfare and Memorial Hall.

The unveiling was followed by a ceremony in the main hall at which Dr. Llewelyn Davies; president of the Cwmllynfell Legion Branch presided.
